Steven Seagal sings!!!!
07.31.04 (6:07 pm) [edit]

No this is not fake..Steven Seagal is a singer now. Steven retired from the world of breaking arms and legs to pursue his "singing" career. I ain't going to sit here and bad mouth an Aikido master, no matter how awful his crappy music is. I'll let you be the judge. Check it out here

Oregon Trail
07.31.04 (3:42 pm) [edit]

Who remembers this game? some of you may be too young to remember it, but Oregon Trail was simply one of the best games ever. We used to play it in middle school, and I learned more from that game about American history than any class I ever attended. It was basically you and 4 other suckers trying to make it to Oregon in a wagon without dying. And everytime someone died, usually from fevers or snakebites. You had to hunt for food, and keep everyone healty and fed. It was like a budget version of the Sims, but set in the 1800's and countrified.

Well, I found an Apple emulator that runs from a website (no downloading required) and lets you play this glorious game for free. Check it out here

Creepy German Folk Singer of the day
07.29.04 (7:22 pm) [edit]

I found this picture on a site devoted to strange album covers, and I have become an instant fan. When I first saw the picture it bewildered me. I simply had to know the story behind this guy. He looks like the dude from Dune mixed with a little Christopher Walken mixed with a smiley German cult leader. And What the hell is up with the poodles? I did a little googling, and found him. He is a superstar folk singer named Heino, and like Dave Hasselhoff, he is huge in Germany.

When Heino isn't busy staring down photographers with his evil ice like gaze, he is busy being a national hero, all the while selling more records than Mariah Carey. This is taken from the Heino site I link below:
"Heino is the most successful German folk (Volksmusik) singer of all times. His characteristics are the blond hair, the omnipresent dark shades and the clear, baritone singing voice. He has sold more than 30 million records in the last 30 years and has become one of the most beloved and famous persons in the German speaking part of the world."

30 Million records? Are you kidding me? I guess in the 70's everyone was too busy drinking cocaine milkshakes and screwing to disco records to realize that they were buying records from a guy named Heino who gropes poodles on his album covers!!! To learn more about this amazingly frightening man, go to his "Heino worship site" here...You can listen to his music and become a Heino convert. I'm willing to bet that Heino fans are the scariest people in Germany. The secret police probably have gigantic files on them. I for one am hoping a Heino revival is right around the corner...this guy could be huge in the states!!! :)

I want to buy one and put giant spinning rims on it, deck it out with a huge system and roll down the street bumping 1920's music out of giant speakers. that would be funny..

07.28.04 (9:43 pm) [edit]

I think Japanese people are as crazy as they are cool. It's very hard to be at the pinnacle of trendiness and high tech as well as being so fucking crazy all the time. Example: Japanese Ice cream. See the picture above? See that funny looking goat on the carton? Why is it there, you wonder? It's not the mascot for the ice cream. Oh no..It's IN the ice cream! Goat ice cream. Jesus H Christ. That is not right at all.. If you think this is wrong, check out some of the others..you will not believe the types of ice cream they eat..check this out..not for the squeemish..would you eat ANY of these?

Donkey Wins Colorado Mayoral Election
07.27.04 (9:14 am) [edit]

Donkey Wins Colorado Mayoral Election
FLORISSANT, Colo. - No elephants need apply. This unincorporated area on Saturday re-elected Paco Bell, a donkey, as its mayor, and that wasn't even close. Two of the four candidates didn't show up.
It's all part of the 15th annual Heritage Days in the town between Divide and Lake George on Colorado Highway 24. Residents like to poke fun at the political process, and they do it by electing a donkey as mayor. Paco Bell won re-election against two no shows and a white donkey named Birdie.
"We had one who was colicky, so he couldn't make it, and another one's trailer broke down, so he couldn't come either," said organizer Tracie Bennitt.
Volunteers the Pikes Peak Historical Society stuffed Paco Bell's ballot box with donations - ensuring him a second term.
Dagney Hales, 8, and Sam Easto, 7, fed the mayor wild goldenrod, green stalks with little yellow flowers, and Teller County Sheriff Kevin Dougherty swore in the incumbent.
"This is good and rural," Dougherty said. "We love doing this kind of stuff."

Believe it or not, this one of many images contained on a disc inside the Voyager spacecraft called the golden record. The record contains alot of images of equations, human life, and recorded music and messages. Apparently, this is a picture that is supposed to depict humans eating, licking, and drinking. Fair enough. But when was the last time you saw someone drink water like that? I have done that only as a young child or as a drunk man and usually ended up soaking myself and looking like a silly jackass. Is this how we want to be represented to Aliens? I think if an extraterrestrial race saw this image, they would vaporize Earth on principle. Jesus.. :!:

07.25.04 (2:15 pm) [edit]

This weekend I found a new thing to be addicted to: Poker. Friday seven of us sat down to a $20 buy in No- Limit Texas Hold Em tournament at the Mantis's house, and much to my surprise, I took the whole pot! We played from 7:30 until 4:30 in the morning, and at the end, it came down to me and DLo (aka Danny Farha), and it was pretty much a 50/50 chance at that point. But the gods of gambling favored me that fateful night, and I became the victor! And the secret to my sucess? being a coward. I just listened to Kenny Rogers. you gotta know when to fold em. If things don't look right, you gotta fold. Simple as that. We had so much fun that we plan on making this a bi weekly ritual. Besides, if we don't do it again, none of the losers will have a chance to knock me off my throne! :) haha.....bring it on fellas~!!!

Falling Down blows
07.22.04 (6:52 pm) [edit]

I woke up today feeling totally off balance. I had this weird weird dream that made me feel strange and aloof all day..you know when you wake up in the middle of an intense dream and don't feel right all day? That's how I felt. So work was cool, then I am out walking to get lunch with some mail under my arm, and I tripped on the curb and proceeded to have a hillarious/painful fall onto the hot concrete. When I first started to fall, I stumbled forward to try and stay up and went like ten feel and Blam! right to the fucking NYC pavement. I looked like a blindfolded clown chasing a chicken down the street. I landed next to a gaggle of little school kids who were with their teacher and she was so shocked! "Mister! are you ok?" she said. Of course I wasn't! but I had to stay strong. If only for the children. So I brushed the dirt off my shoulder and went on my way..But wow that hurt! I usually fall when I am drunk and don't remember and if I do, I have fun falling..this was no kind of fun. But get this...about 2 minutes later, a dude on a bike hit the same curb and landed right on his face! owww! And he didn't get up! no sir.. He was bleeding out of his face, and I felt so bad for him..people were giving him tissues, as if that would help make his burning bloody face feel any better. So I figured the best way to lick my wounds is to laugh at other people falling down. Watch these:
Lady falls while stomping grapes..owww!!
If you think that sucks, watch this!
Ok..I know its not right to laugh, but heres one more..Bob Dole! you are soooo old! best fall ever..http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITIC...

Monkeys are getting better and better all the time
07.22.04 (4:50 pm) [edit]

JERUSALEM (AP) -- A young monkey at an Israeli zoo has started walking on its hind legs only -- aping humans -- after almost dying from a stomach illness, the zoo's veterinarian said Wednesday.
Natasha, a 5-year-old black macaque at the Safari Park near Tel Aviv, began walking exclusively on her hind legs after a stomach ailment nearly killed her, zookeepers said.
Monkeys usually alternate between upright movement and walking on all fours. A picture in the Maariv daily on Wednesday showed Natasha standing ramrod straight like a human. The picture was labeled humorously, "The Missing Link?"
Two weeks ago, Natasha and three other monkeys were diagnosed with severe stomach flu. At the zoo clinic, she slipped into critical condition, said Igal Horowitz, the veterinarian.
"I was sure that she was going to die," he said. "She could hardly breathe and her heart was not functioning properly."
After intensive treatment, Natasha's condition stabilized. When she was released from the clinic, Natasha began walking upright.
"I've never seen or heard of this before," said Horowitz. One possible explanation is brain damage from the illness, he said.
Otherwise, Horowitz said, Natasha's behavior has returned to normal.

If it actually spelled Darth Vader the right way it wouldn't be as cool..I found it on a site that is a vintage online clothing store that has a ton of stuff from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. I wish I had money because I would buy up some of this stuff. Its fantastic. Remember these hats? What was the deal with those? why was the French Legionnaire look so hot back in the day? | Strange Creature Videotaped! |
07.20.04 (7:06 pm) [edit]

I'm the first to admit I am quick to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon when it comes to the paranormal world. Ever since I saw a UFO in high school I am convinced something is out there beyond the explained. Has any one heard stories of the Chupacabra? For years, all over Latin America and South American countries, stories were told of a small vicious dog-like creature with fangs and a long tail that would kill chickens and leave animals completely drained of their blood. So this creature may not be anything mean and evil like the Chupacabra or New Jersey Devil, but it is unidentified. I know I'd lose it if I saw this thing running around my back yard. So check out the video and please someone tell me what iS this thing?

The weekend is here...I went to my boy Jay's birthday party last night and had a blast..Caught 4 hours of couch sleep, but other than that had a wicked good time..While I was there my friend Jeff put me on to this site (Boreme.com) that had alot of cool links and awesome videos, and had some stuff on it that I had to post.. Check these out and let me know what you think:
Chimpanzee Doing Kung Fu
That's right. The holy grail of monkey footage. I saw this a while back and it was so cool it short circuited my brain. I think I was hypnotized. I think if I could have 100 chimps that could do Kung Fu I could start a revolution. Just watch this video, and and you will see why Monkeys are the coolest animals in the world: http://homepage.mac.com/dwp/i...
Korean Sand Art
This is an artist in Korea doing a live Sand art display on an overhead projector. Sounds kind of stupid right? wrong. Its fucking awesome. It is insane what this guy makes with sand...An absolute must see: http://www.boreme.com/bm/JAN0...
Flipping flying kung fu madness
This is a clip of a dude in an auditorium going apeshit on the kung Fu. Watch this guy do ninja flips and kicks like Ernie Reyes Junior. I would pair this cat up with my team of Kung Fu Chimps and take over the planet: http://boreme.com/bm/APR04/a/...
Bathroom Monkey
An awesome skit from SNL about a bathroom monkey. Oldie but goodie: http://boreme.com/bm/JAN04/a/...

What can I say. The game is crack. Plain and simple. It gets better every time I play it. Its so good Its bad. My boy Dlo still whips me in it, but I have my moments. With the exception of Big Tigger from Rap City's "The Bassment" hosting, it just about achieves video game perfection. Knocking people out is so realisitc its scary. Fighting as Ward versus Gatti is just as bloody as their real life bouts. I wish you could be crazy Mike Tyson. That would be awesome...

Back when a bowl of cereal would get me wired. This got me fired up..So turn it on at your place of work and/or study, and watch the girls run away from you as fast as they can as you bang out the nerdiest fucking music ever from your little cubicle. holla.

...Grrr..Damn. This brain of mine is running out of monkey juice. I haven't been able to make words come out of my brain into my hands and onto the internet in days. What is a grown man trying to avoid work to do? I tell you what I'll do. Complain. Luckily the weather has been so fucking crappy that I have found inspiration once again. It started yesterday. The tight faced weatherman came on the TV with that disgusting smug look letting me know we were all in for it. It was ridiculous yesterday..Rain all day and all night..I woke up and felt like staying in bed, looked outside and it looked like fucking Chernobyl. And today it's more of a drizzle, which isn't so bad, but New York city rain is gross, even when it's drizzling. And it was that freaky sideways rain, so even your umbrella doesn't do squat. I used to live in Miami, and when it rained it was refreshing. We used to stand in it on purpose. But NYC rain is like getting dripped on by a giant air conditioner. uck. Well its supposed to rain all week, and hopefully it will clear up for the weekend. Ah, the weekend. Where are you?? back to work, recon..

Monkey see, monkey grab
07.09.04 (9:49 am) [edit]

Brain implants 'read' monkey minds 19:00 08 July 04 Brain implants have been used to "read the minds" of monkeys to predict what they are about to do and even how enthusiastic they are about doing it.
It is the first time such high level cognitive brain signals have been decoded and could ultimately lead to more natural thought-activated prosthetic devices for people with paralysis, says Richard Andersen project leader at the California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena, US.
By decoding the signals from 96 electrodes in a region of the brain just above the ear – called the parietal cortex - the researchers were able to predict 67 per cent of the time where in their visual field trained monkeys were planning to reach.
They also found that this accuracy could be improved to about 88 per cent when the monkeys expected a reward for carrying out the task.
The team were even able to predict what sort of reward the monkeys were expecting - whether it was juice or just plain water – from their brain signals.
"In the future you could apply this cognitive approach to language areas of the brain," says Andersen. By doing so it may be possible to decode the words someone was thinking, he says.
'Reach region'
Previous research by Miguel Nicolelis at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, has shown how electrodes implanted in the motor cortices of monkeys can be used to control a robot arm. But this involved recording signals used to control muscles to move the monkey's arm.
The new findings could in theory make this simpler by allowing, say, a paralysed patient to merely specify which object to reach for, and let the robot worry about how it gets there.
The monkeys were trained to think about a particular point in their visual field before reaching for it while the researchers recorded signals in an area Andersen calls the "reach region".
This area is associated with planning, he says. "It takes information from the sensory system and forms early plans for intention."
Previously it has not been clear whether these signals were cognitive or simply related to where the monkey was looking, says John Chapin, at State University of New York who is carrying out related work using a different part of the brain. Andersen believes this work shows the signals are cognitive because the monkeys were trained not to move their eyes during their experiments so the signals are not linked directly to sensory input.
Ultimately the only way to be really sure, says Chapin, is to try it on humans.
The work was also carried out with researchers in Canada and Switzerland.

Man Chicken?
07.09.04 (9:41 am) [edit]

Man In Fiji Raised As A Chicken Sponsor Says Man Is Making 'Remarkable Progress'
A man in Suva, Fiji, is being taught to act human after being raised as a chicken.
Sunjit Kumar was locked in a chicken coop for several years as a young boy, after his parents died and he was handed over to his grandfather.
He had little contact with humans during that time and picked up the habits of the birds.
Kumar escaped from the chicken coop and was taken to a local hospital. But the staff did not know how to treat him, so they confined him. He spent 20 years there, often tied to his bed.
Kumar, who is now 32, finally got a second chance at life when he was discovered by Elizabeth Clayton, a native New Zealander and president of the Suva Rotary Club.
Clayton said doctors examined Sunjit and found no mental defects. Professionals agreed that his condition was the result of years of neglect and abuse.
"He had imitated or imprinted with the chicken," Clayton said. "He was perching, he was picking at his food, he was hopping around like a chicken. He'd keep his hands in a chickenlike fashion, and he'd make a noise, which was like the calling of a chicken, which he still has."
Clayton took over Kumar's care and he has reportedly made "remarkable progress," learning to walk and speak like a human.

07.08.04 (10:41 am) [edit]

Oh my goodness. I love to find new and interesting ways to not work. I am pretty good at it. I do lots of things to avoid actual labor; twirling pens being one of them. But twirling pens seems like something you can only do so well. But think again, because this video shows that fucking pen ninjas are everywhere. I really can't imagine how lazy these people are that they are this good at twirling fucking pens. Great Ceasar's ghost! A must see: http://www.koreus.com/files/200406/jonglage _stylo_doigt.html" title="http://www.koreus.com/files/200406/jonglage _stylo_doigt.html" target="_blank"http://www.koreus.com/files/2...

Stats
07.06.04 (12:18 pm) [edit]

My close friends can atttest to the fact that I hate all numbers and most math related things. I suck at tipping, I always end up giving way too much, and basically whenever I have to actually do math I feel burning between my ears. I'm more of a sound and pictures kind of guy. I tried taking a statistics class in college, and even though I only went to one class, my brain almost imploded. But my friend Lodi sent me a Harper's index of statistics that is full of interesting stuff. Who thought the world of math could make me laugh?.. The very last stat is my favorite..Check these out:

Prickly feeling makes sense
By ANIL DAWARin London
July 2, 2004
IF you have ever felt that someone is watching you, sending prickles up your neck, it might not have been just your imagination.
Scientists have found evidence to suggest we do have a sixth sense and can tell when we are being watched, even through CCTV.
This shows humans could have paranormal powers, say researchers at Germany's Freiberg University.
Dr Stefan Schmidt and his team carried out two experiments a thousand times and believe they have finally proved the reality of the sixth sense.
The first, called "remote staring", consisted of a volunteer in a sealed room watching a second volunteer in another room via CCTV.
The second volunteer was hooked up to electrodes which recorded the "prickle" or electrical activity of the skin. This was compared when the volunteer was or was not being watched.
In the second experiment, called "direct mental interaction", the first volunteer concentrated on making the second feel uncomfortable or relaxed from within the sealed cell.
The German team used a complex statistical scale to grade the studies according to reliability and paranormal effect recorded.
In other experiments, the starer tried to make the other feel either uncomfortable or relaxed. Again, the electronic monitor proved repeatedly that it could be done.
In the British Journal of Psychology, Dr Schmidt noted that the data was ambiguous but found that "for both data sets there is a small but significant effect".
While the findings will please believers in the paranormal, they are not enough to convince the sceptics.
Psychology professor Richard Wiseman, of Hertfordshire University, said: "The number of times you turn around and find someone not looking at you far outnumber the times when you do but you only remember the times you turned round to see someone looking."
Back in the 1960s Czech psychologist Milan Ryzl did a series of experiments with two supposedly telepathic people who were many kilometres apart.
The "sender" was asked to try to make the "receiver" feel uncomfortable by imagining that he had been buried alive, and succeeded in inducing a crippling attack of asthma.
Mr Ryzl was inspired by a colleague, Stepan Figar, who had proved that when one person concentrates on another, it can actually cause a measurable rise in blood pressure.

Turkish Spiderman and other ripoffs
07.01.04 (9:59 am) [edit]

In Turkey and Japan and I imagine alot of other countires, apparently blatantly ripping off comic book characters is A OK. Who could forget the low budget brillance of the epic "Indian Superman" :

(If you haven't read the review of that fantastic piece of film, read this): http://www.stomptokyo.com/movies/s/superman-ind ian.html" title="http://www.stomptokyo.com/movies/s/superman-ind ian.html" target="_blank"http://www.stomptokyo.com/mov...
Or this 70's Japanese series that butchered the concept of Spiderman:

In light of the release of Spiderman 2, here is a Turkish rip off extravaganza. Turkish Spiderman..I frankly would rather see this than the new Sam Raimi movie..(not really, but it does look craptastic!) check it out: -- http://i-mockery.net/3devadam/
